There are no additional ‘hidden’ costs

What languages do you translate?
Transatlantic has an extensive database of translators all over the world, so we are able to translate to and from virtually every language.
How is translation priced?
Translations are usually priced on a cost per 1,000 words. However, as the number of words increases dramatically when translating in many languages, Transatlantic quotes a fixed price – there are no additional ‘hidden’ costs. This way, our clients know exactly what the cost of the project will be before we begin.
How quickly can you translate a document?
Most translators will complete from 2,000 – 2,500 words per day (approximately 8 – 10 pages of text), however we are able to put teams of translators in place if your project requires a quicker turnaround. If you need the translation Desktop Published, please allow for about 50 – 60 pages of DTP per day.
What Desktop Publishing packages do you use?
The translators that we use are all able to work with commonly used packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, however we are also able to complete and return projects in FrameMaker, PageMaker, InDesign, QuarkXpress, AutoCAD and Illustrator.
How do I supply files to you for a quote?
If they are small enough, files can be e-mailed to us and we will provide a quote within 24 hours of receipt (usually the same day), detailing the exact cost and how long the project will take. For larger files, we have an FTP site onto which clients can upload files. Finally, we can receive files on CD. If this is your preferred method, we will pay for the CD to be collected from you and delivered to us by overnight courier.
Do you charge "rush" charges?
No, Transatlantic does NOT charge for "rush" work – if we believe a project has an unrealistic deadline, we will turn the work down.
How can I ensure my documents will be treated as confidential?
We frequently sign Confidentiality Agreements with clients, and the translators utilized by Transatlantic sign and return a Confidentiality Agreement with us before they start EVERY single project.
Do you use machine translation?
No, we do not. All of our translations are completed by highly experienced mother-tongue translators living in their home countries. Machine translation may be okay for the odd sentence, but it does NOT work for document translation and is many years away from this capacity. We do use translation memory software (CAT) tools, which assist the translators and help us provide consistent terminology, lower prices, and quicker turnaround times for our clients.
Do you accept credit cards?
We accept all major credit cards.
Do you offer an out-of-hours service?
Our European operations start at 8am GMT, and by means of our seamless transition in the evening (6pm GMT - 1pm EST) from Europe to our Project Management team in the US, work can be undertaken using 15 hours of a normal working day. Conversely, US clients who pass work to us late in the day can be sure that a very early start can be made by way of our European Translation team. In actual practice, our major clients can send us work and receive translated material back outside of even these working hours.
